UK businesses planning to recruit talent from outside the European Economic Area and Switzerland require a government permit in order to do so. This permit is called a ‘Sponsorship License’ and can be ‘Tier 2’ for highly skilled long-term staff including company transfers, or ‘Tier 5’ for temporary workers including volunteers or interns.

Our Corporate Immigration team brings together lawyers from our immigration and employment practices. This way we can ensure that you are fully prepared to comply with the duties the Home Office places upon Tier 2 and Tier 5 Sponsors. Our approach is to seamlessly embed this complex legal process into your existing business operations and enable you to be confident in your status as a Tier 2 or Tier 5 Sponsor.

In light of Brexit, it is expected that the current sponsorship system will be merged with the new requirements relating to EU employees. European nationals arriving in the UK after 31 December 2020 will need to be sponsored under the immigration regime then in place, details of which should be revealed in early 2019.
