What is a Lasting Power of Attorney?
A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA), is a legal document that allows you (‘Donor’) to appoint trusted individuals (Attorneys) to manage your affairs in the event that you should lose mental capacity either temporarily or permanently.
Crucially, it is only possible to put an LPA in place while you have mental capacity and so should be considered sooner rather than later.
There are two types of LPAs:
- Health and Welfare; and
- Property and Financial affairs.
